Shockwave Therapy (ESWT)
Shockwave Therapy (Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy – ESWT) is a non-invasive treatment that uses high-energy acoustic waves to stimulate tissue repair and reduce chronic pain. At SPMC Wellness, we use shockwave therapy to treat stubborn musculoskeletal conditions that haven’t responded to conventional care.
Shock waves are movements of extremely high pressure caused by, for example, an explosion, an earthquake, or a plane breaking the sound barrier.
These shock waves produce a rapid increase in blood circulation to the target area and help break down fibrous scar tissue. Scar tissue is non-elastic tissue that builds up over time and can limit movement and joint function, thereby weakening the surrounding healthy tissue.
Common conditions treated with ESWT:
-
Plantar fasciitis and heel spurs
-
Tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow
-
Calcific tendinitis of the shoulder
-
Chronic muscle tightness or trigger points
-
Frozen shoulder
-
Knee osteoarthritis
-
Shoulder and hip pain
ESWT enhances blood circulation, breaks down scar tissue, and accelerates healing at the cellular level — all without surgery or downtime. It's a safe and effective therapy for athletes, active individuals, and chronic pain sufferers.
It is clinically proven that shockwave helps in:
-
Reduction of pain felt by nerve fibres
-
Increase of blood circulation in surrounding soft tissues
-
Beginning of healing process triggered by stem cells activation
